Caspia Chunky Cowl Pattern

Free cowl crochet pattern

A quick and easy chunky cowl crochet pattern here today! You may be able to get this done in a couple of sittings, it’s a great pattern for putting down and picking up as there is just one stitch involved and no counting once we’re past the first row. Sounds relaxing right?

This scarf pattern would also make great craft market inventory as it works up quickly with the chunky yarn.

You can download the ad free PDF versions below.

I used the WI soft and chunky that you can find at Hobbycraft, it took 3 balls with a little left over which is perfect as they’re on 3 for 2 frequently!

Materials

6.5mm hook (a larger hook would work fine too for a looser stitch, but I wouldn’t recommend a smaller hook)

<300g of a chunky weight yarn

Scissors to finish

Pattern

Row 1 – Work a double crochet (US terms, treble crochet in UK) foundation row of 25. If a foundation row horrifies you, then just chain 27 and work a row of double crochets from the 3rd chain from the hook and through to the end. Finish with a stitch count of 25.

Row 2 – Chain 2 and work a row of 25 double crochets in the back loop only.

Repeat row 2 for a further 112 and rows – it’s as simple as that!

This number of stitches and rows will give you a chunky, deep snuggly cowl scarf that you can wrap over twice with a bit of breathing space. If you would prefer a thinner finish you can start with fewer chains, and if you would prefer it to be a tighter fit round the neck or only wrap once then work fewer rows.

I have a similar but shorter cowl pattern available here, using a lighter yarn if that more takes your fancy.
