Crochet Heart Garland Pattern for Valentine’s Day

Do you like to decorate your home for Valentine’s Day? This crochet heart garland pattern is just what you need!

This heart crochet pattern will give you a string of cute love hearts to hang as a garland or bunting, but you can also use these for the front of cards, face scrubbies, appliques, nursery decorations or even add a few rows and make coasters!

I’ve used Paintbox cotton aran in shades of pink, but you could use any aran yarn for a crochet garland. DK would work too, they’ll just come out a little smaller.

Special Stitches

sc2tog: pull up a loop from the 1st st, pull up a loop from the 2nd st, yarn over and pull through both loops

Notes

Stitch counts will be in brackets at the end of each row
Starting chs do not count as a stitch
‘2 sc’ for e.g. means work 2 sc sts in the next st as an increase
(dc, tr) for e.g. means work both a dc and a tr in the next st
The hearts are worked in rounds, with sl sts and no turns

Crochet Heart Garland Pattern

Rnd 1: In a magic ring, ch2 and work 12 dc, sl st into the 1st dc and close the magic ring (12)

Rnd 2: ch2, dc in the 1st dc, fpdc around the same dc from the previous round, *dc, fpdc around the same dc* repeat * around, sl st into the 1st dc (24)

Rnd 3: ch1, sc, fpdc around the next fpdc, *tr, fptr around the same st* repeat * 2x, hdc, sc, sl st into the next 6 sts, (sc, ch2, sc) in the next st, sl st into the next 6 sts, sc, hdc, *tr, fptr around the same st* repeat * 2x, dc, sl st into ch1 (30 sts + ch2)

Rnd 4: do not ch1, sc into the 1st sc, sc, (dc, tr), 2 tr in the next st, (tr, dc), hdc, sc in each st until you reach the ch2 sp, (sc, ch2, sc) in the ch2 sp, sc in next 9 sts, hdc, (dc, tr), 2 tr in the next st, (tr, dc), sc, sl st into sl st from the previous round (37 sts + ch2)

Finish yarn and weave in ends.

Work a string of ch sts to join your hearts to your preferred length. I suggest leaving 14 or more chs between each heart and joining with a sl st in the back of the top centre sc.
