Striped Crochet Beanie Pattern

What you’ll need

  • <160 yards or 100g of aran weight yarn
  • 5.5mm hook
  • Scissors and needle for finishing

Concentration level

Simple stitches centered on single and double crochet, quick to work, and very few decreasing rows.

Chain – ch
Slip Stitch – sl st
Stitch(es) – st(s)
Skip – sk
Single Crochet – sc
Double Crochet – dc
Half Double Crochet – hdc

Gauge

8 rows of 14 dc in 4″x4″

Notes

  • Starting chains do not count as a stitch
  • Stitch counts will be in brackets at the end of each row
  • Pattern is worked on the right side with no turns
  • ‘dc 3’ means work 1 dc in the next 3 sts

Free Striped Crochet Beanie Pattern: baby size 0-3 months

Ribbing

Row 1: ch8, sc in 2nd ch from hook and to the end (7)

Row 2: ch1, turn, sc in the back loop of each st (7)

Repeat Row 2 until you have 49 rows.

Join the first and last rows with sl sts to form a loop. Turn the right way round to continue, leaving the sl sts on the inside.

Hat Body

Turn to work horizontally, where the top of each row from the ribbing counts as a stitch.

Row 1: ch2, dc in each st, sl st (49)

Row 2: ch2, hdc in each st, sl st (49)

Row 3: ch1, sc in each st, sl st (49)

Row 4: ch2, hdc in each st, sl st (49)

Rows 5 to 8: Repeat Rows 1 to 4 (49)

Row 9: ch2, dc in each st, sl st (49)

Row 10: ch2, hdc2tog over each st around, hdc in last st, sl st (25)

Row 11: ch1, sc in each st, sl st (25)

Row 12: ch2, hdc in each st, sl st (25)

Row 13: ch2, *dc2tog, dc* repeat * around, dc in last st, sl st. Skip to end. (13)

Cinch the hole closed with a needle or hook and attach pom (optional).
