A gorgeous transitional piece – a granny sleeve crochet cardigan pattern in sizes XS-5X, in aran/worsted yarn. In spring colours, with the looser fit and airy sleeves, i’m loving wearing this through the spring and into the UK summer! It’s even cuter in the baby sizes (free baby cardigan pattern here)…
This is a simpler garment pattern for confident beginners, or a quick pattern for experienced crochets. The construction is basic; made in flat panels, with little increasing or stitch counting. Made with a few extra inches for a slightly oversized, comfy fit.
I, and most of the fabulous testers, love this with paired with jeans for an easy, casual look.

Need some more info on the granny sleeve crochet cardigan?
You will need:
- Aran/worsted acrylic
- 5.5mm/I and 6.5mm/k hooks
- Scissors and needle for finishing
See the size guide below, with the yarn requirements for each side.
The cardigan is put together in sections; the back panel, two panels for the front, two sleeves, and the sc ribbed edging round the front.
The granny sleeve crochet cardigan works up really quickly with the fast stitches (hdc and granny stitch) and a 6.5mm hook – which also gives it a lovely drape even with the aran/worsted yarn!
There is a little shaping round the neckline using hdc2tog, and some skipped sts at the underarm to make the sleeves a less bulky, streamlined fit. The sleeves are more oversized with only a handful of decreasing rows across the whole piece. The pattern includes a photo tutorial for the granny decrease stitch.
