If you’re looking for a lightweight baby blanket for spring summer weather or a way to use up your left over yarn you’re in the right place! This summer crochet blanket pattern is the perfect yarn stash buster.
This pattern is sized for a large baby blanket but easily customisable with even stitch and row counts, and designed to help you use up your stash yarn with some beautiful textured rows!
As well as using up your yarn stash, this pattern is also a great way to practice new stitches you might not have tried before if you’re a beginner! Using the V stitch, puff stitch and bead stitch there’s lots of texture alongside the simple double crochet.

Summer Stash Crochet Blanket Pattern
You will need:
- 400g DK yarn (200g base colour)
- 4.5mm hook
- Scissors and needle for finishing
For the base yarn, if you’re not stash busting I recommend Stylecraft Special DK in Parchment. It’s a beautiful neutral that goes with anything and is my new favourite. I’m obsessed with it!
Special stitches
Puff Stitch: Yarn over, pull up a loop, repeat 3x. Pull through all 7 loops on hook, ch1.
V Stitch: dc ch1 dc all in the same stitch, skip the next, repeat.
Bead Stitch (hdc): Treat this like a horizontal puff stitch! hdc, yarn over and pull up a loop from sideways around the hdc, repeat 3x, pull through all 7 loops on your hook from around the hdc, ch1, sk1, repeat.
Moss Stitch: sc, ch1, sk1, repeat.
Gauge
Approx 8 rows of 15 dc in 4×4″. While it’s not essential to meet gauge, it may affect the amount of yarn you need and size of finished blanket.
Notes
- Pattern is in US terms
- The pattern is worked in rows and finished off with a moss stitch border.
- You can alter the size by working to any stitch count in a multiple of 2.
- Feel free to change yarn size, though the size of the finished blanket and amount of yarn required will be different.
- Starting chains do not count as a stitch unless specified.
Free Crochet Blanket Pattern
Row 1: ch 122, dc in 3rd ch from hook and each ch until the end, or work a foundation row of 120 dcs. Turn
Stitch count will stay at 120 throughout.
Row 2: ch2, dc in the same st and each st until the end, turn.
Row 3: Repeat Row 2.
Row 4: This row is the bead stitch. ch2, *ch1 sk1, hdc and work a puff st around the hdc* repeat to the end of the row. In the last 2 sts, sk1, hdc in last st, turn. The first bead stitch will be in the 2nd dc of the prev row.
Rows 5-7: Repeat the dc pattern from Row 2, working in the top of each st and ch1 space.
Row 8: This row is the puff stitch. ch2, *ch1, sk1, puff stitch in the next dc* repeat to the end of the row, finishing on a dc, turn. The first puff stitch will be in the 2nd dc of the prev row.
Rows 9-11: Repeat the dc pattern from Row 2, working in the top of each st and ch1 space.
Row 12: This row is the V stitch. ch3, *sk1, dc ch1 dc in the next st* repeat to the end. Finish with a dc in each of the last 2 sts, turn. The first V stitch will be in the 2nd dc of the prev row.
Rows 13-15: Repeat the dc pattern from Row 2, working in the top of each dc.
For a square blanket, repeat rows 4-15 4 more times, with an extra repeat of the bead stitch followed by rows 1-4 to finish. This will be 67 rows in total.
Border
Row 1: Starting in the top right corner, ch1 and work 1 sc in each horizontal st across the top, ch2 in the corner, 2sc in every row down the sides, ch2 in the corner, repeat around. Sl st, turn.
Row 2: ch1, work the moss stitch around, with a ch2 at every corner. *You may have to start or end with an extra sc in the corner spaces*
To follow the pattern shown, repeat Row 2 twice more or add your own border!
